There is something for everyone to do at the Village - a complete Western North Carolina family resort. If you are looking for a Smoky Mountains rafting vacation, stay at the Village and begin your whitewater adventure on the Nantahala River from our front door. Play tennis, shuffleboard, ping pong or pool, go horseback riding with your family - unlimited opportunities for family fun at this Western North Carolina family resort.

The Nantahala Village Riding Stable is located on the property and is available to guests and the public. Harold and Virgie Loftis and their son David operate the stable and offer guided trips on trails in the Nantahala National Forest. No experience is necessary for your Western style trail ride. You are sure to enjoy views of Fontana Lake and some guests see (and hear!) the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad as it begins its journey through the Nantahala Gorge.

Groups are welcome and the maximum number of people for a trip is 15. Advance reservations are strongly recommended for groups of 7 or more people. Usually, 1-6 people can reserve a trip a few days in advance or take a trip on a walk-up basis. Small children may ride alone on Katie (a pony), or small horses. Children under 5 years old ride for half price when riding with an adult. For more information or to make a reservation, please call the Village Stables at 828-488-9649.

The three-hour whitewater rafting trip down the Nantahala River provides an exhilarating experience for all ages. The Nantahala River is swift running with plenty of rapids that make it exciting for whitewater rafting, yet has enough calm water to allow for relaxing and enjoying the view. The exciting climax to the whitewater rafting trip is a class III to IV rapid called the Nantahala Falls that will make your whitewater rafting trip down the Nantahala River a memorable one.

There are approximately 6 miles of trails that meander through Nantahala National Forest at the back of the Nantahala Village property. Some of the trails are relatively easy as they were once forest service roads. Ridgetop Trail offers a bit of challenge as it climbs the ridge and travels the rough ups and downs of the mountain top. Both Lakeside Trail and the Finger Lake Road Trail provide a birds eye view of Fontana Lake.

From April through October, these trails are also used by the Nantahala Village Stables between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. To avoid confrontations with inexperienced horse riders during these months, we ask that bikers limit biking to the early morning or late evening hours.

Trail maps are available from the front desk.

The Village has two brand new tennis courts and rackets for guest use. One lighted shuffleboard court is near the swimming pool, and an open grassy area for volleyball is over by the pond.

Village guests are welcome to use any of these recreational courts, and don't worry if you did not bring equipment. You may borrow equipment simply by asking the Front Desk staff.

The Game Room is a no-smoking, kid friendly environment with a pool table, ping pong, air hockey, and numerous video arcade games. Because it's located near the Lodge and next to the Swimming Pool, it's a great place for Village guests to enjoy multiple forms of entertainment. The games are operated either by coin or token, and for convenience, there is a change machine in the Game Room. Hours vary for the Game Room according to the season. Please inquire at the front desk.
