Nantahala Village came into being in 1948, when the Great Smoky Mountains National Park was new and a visit to the Western North Carolina mountains was a true retreat from the world. Now, over 50 years later, Nantahala Village has become a tradition for Western North Carolina family vacations. Our 200 acres include an awe-inspiring mountain lodge with lodge rooms, the Village Bistro restaurant, and more than twenty-five individual cabins, fifteen suites and over thirty Smoky Mountain vacation home rentals - each one unique. You can stay for a day or a month, by yourself or with four generations of your family, and you will feel welcome from the minute you arrive until you reluctantly drive away.

We've preserved our homey, relaxed atmosphere to provide our guests with the kind of authentic setting and genuine mountain hospitality that is expected for truly enjoyable Western North Carolina family vacations.

Nantahala means "land of the noonday sun". It is the name given long ago to this corner of the Smokies by the Cherokee as they trekked through these mountains. They knew the sun would only light their way through our steep river gorge during the middle of the day, when it was high over head. The Nantahala Village is at the beginning of the Nantahala Gorge, home of the Nantahala River, just west of Bryson City.

The days are warm and the nights are cool, the activities are plentiful and close by, the facilities are clean and waiting--come join us and start your Western North Carolina family vacation tradition!
